A Spy without a Country
Simon Weston grew up royal in a place where aristocracy still mattered. Serving Queen and country meant everything to him, until MI6 marked him as damaged goods and he left his home in disgrace. Ian Taggart showed him a better way to serve his fellow man and introduced him to Sanctum, a place to pursue his passion for Dominance and submission. Topping beautiful subs was a lovely distraction until he met Chelsea, and becoming her Master turned into Simon’s most important mission.
A Woman without Hope
Chelsea Dennis grew up a pawn to the Russian mob. Her father’s violent lessons taught her that monsters lurked inside every man and they should never be trusted. Hiding in the shadows, she became something that even the monsters would fear—an information broker who exposed their dirty secrets and toppled their empires. Everything changed when Simon Weston crossed her path. Valiant and faithful, he was everything she needed—and a risk she couldn’t afford to take.
A Force too Strong to Resist
When dark forces from her past threaten her newfound family at Sanctum, Chelsea must turn to Simon, the one man she can trust with her darkest secrets. Their only chance to survive lies in a mystery even Chelsea has been unable to solve. As they race to uncover the truth and stay one step ahead of the assassins on their heels, they will discover a love too powerful to deny. But to stop a killer, Simon just might have to sacrifice himself…
I was recently tasked with the challenge of naming my ten most favorite series of all time. While this was a difficult decision, there was one series that immediately came to mind – The Masters and Mercenaries series by the always amazing Lexi Blake. This series has everything you could want – passion, intrigue, humor, erotic sex, and so much emotion that I dare you not to shed a few tears.
Her newest installment, A View to a Thrill, provides all of this and so much more. Now, this book is the 7th book in the series and you would think that by now the books would follow a formula and be completely predictable. But they aren’t and that is all because of Ms. Blake’s outstanding writing. Even after all this time, she still manages to surprise me with plot twists and new characters that I just didn’t see coming. I love that she can keep me on my toes and on the edge of my seat yelling at any family member that dares to interrupt me while I am reading.
Chelsea and Simon take center stage in this book. Simon has been lusting after Chelsea for some time now, but she isn’t interested in any type of relationship. But now her life has been threatened and she naturally turns to Simon for protection. While the two are on the run, their connection turns into love. But with trust issues and insecurities galore between them can they turn that love into something lasting?
When I began reading, I had mixed feelings. I absolutely adored Simon from the time we were introduced to him. Here was this man who always was impeccably dressed in a three piece suit no matter what mission he was on. He had charm, looks, money and he was a Dom to boot. Throw in the British accent and I was a goner. Chelsea, on the other hand, didn’t have a lot of redeeming qualities as far as I was concerned. While I understand that her childhood had been hell, she seemed to prefer anger and self-pity over the love and healing that Simon was offering her.
But here is where the beauty of Ms. Blake’s writing shines. She was able to show me why I should have sympathy and understanding toward Chelsea; and she certainly showed me why Chelsea was the right woman for Simon. In fact, by the time I had reached the satisfying conclusion I came to appreciate and respect Chelsea and was absolutely pleased that they had fallen in love.
The other thing that Ms. Blake does so brilliantly is write thrillers so filled with tension that you may just find yourself biting your nails. No one does the spy romance better than Ms. Blake. And she never short changes you on any aspect of the book, whether it’s the romance or the suspense. She effortlessly combines the two into a story so amazing that you will lose yourself completely in this fictional world she has created.
Each and every character in this series has worked their way into my heart. So I love that Ms. Blake continues to include the leads from other books in her current story. No one can make me laugh as much as Big Tag so it’s always so good to see him. And now Jesse has become a part of this family and will be getting his own story soon. I love that we were introduced to some new characters in A View to a Thrill and I can’t wait to see them in future books. It gives me hope that this unbelievable series will never have to end.
I do not suggest that you read A View to a Thrill as a standalone because you will miss out on a lot of important back story that has an effect on the decisions that Chelsea and Simon make throughout the book. But at least by going back and reading the other books you will be able to make the time pass as you wait for Jesse’s book which isn’t due out until next year. And then once you’ve read the entire series, I have no doubt it too will appear on your top ten list.
