Cold_WarriorsPlease tell the readers about yourself and the books you write?

Hi its great to be here.  My name is Clare Dargin and I am an author of romance and science fiction.   I am an educator by trade and an active addict of all things romance.  Lately I’ve been hooked more than usual.  I try to garden on occasion but when I grow weeds and kill roses, I hang out with my friends, go to the movies and live on face book!

Tell us about your latest book.  Do you have anything new in the works and can you tell us a bit about it?

I am so glad you asked.  Cold Warriors is my first erotic romance novel and it is near and dear to my heart.    Here is a quick blurb–  Left in cryogenic stasis for nearly a century, Caitlin Driskoll is awakened and drafted into a war she knows nothing about. Expected to defend a world where her kind is despised and expendable, she discovers love and respect from the one man who can’t be associated with her.  Lieutenant Colonel Medoro Keegan has spent a lifetime in the Marines. With no family to speak of, the Corps and his ship, the USS Blanchard, are all the loved ones he needs…until Caitlin sparks a fire within, that threatens to consume him if he doesn’t walk away. Will he choose a life of certainty in the only world he knows or give it all to Caitlin and run the risk of losing someone, yet again?

What inspired you to write Cold Warriors?

One day I had a hankering to read a book with a kick ass heroine and the hot military guy who loved her and I had no money to go to Borders and buy one.  (Believe me this was a long time ago!) So I decided to write my entertainment.

How do you describe your writing style?

Gritty, fast paced, intense emotional run.  With smoking hot guys!

When writing who is in charge you or your characters? How do you deal with bossy characters?

Most of the time my characters are in charge.  So when they really have to say something I let them  go for it.  I love bossy characters by the way.  Because the story writes itself and I get done quicker!

Is there anything you find particularly challenging about writing?

Mental blocks and my inner critic.  She talks too much!

What was one of the most surprising things you learned while writing your books?

Writing is as addictive as reading!  Seriously.  Its like I’m miserable writing it and then when I’m done, I’m like give me more.  Does that make me masochistic?

What advice would you give to writers just starting out?

Don’t stop dreaming about tomorrow!  To quote Fleetwood Mac.  Don’t stop honing your craft.  Be open to constructive criticism from more experienced writers, and then once you’ve fined tuned it within an inch of its life– let it go and either submit it for publication or let it cool and reread it again (make any needed corrections) then submit it.  Don’t let rejections stop you.  Someone out there will love your work!

Now for a fun question, what is in your TBR pile?

OMG….Let me see… J.M. Madden and Angela Wray and a ton of WIPs!

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer? Was your family and friends supportive?

When I was boring my mother and father with made up stories I use to write in my journal when I first learned how to write!

Who (if anyone) has been instrumental in inspiring you as a writer?

My parents!  Oh and S.E. Hinton, I was like she was how old when she was first published?!  Dude I got to get published.  (Btw she was 19.)

What are you currently working on? Anything you can share regarding your current Work in Progress?

I am editing a steamy erotic romance that is a far departure from Cold Warriors that I know everyone will love.
