Hello Ty Langston. Thank you to taking the time to stop by. I am honored to have you here.
Thanks for having me Marissa! I was born and raised in Upstate, New York. Actually about 15 miles from Albany.
I’m currently single and my mother and aunt live with me in a home I purchased from my late grandmother.
Pretty much I love anything that’s performing arts related. I took tap, ballet and jazz for many years as well as piano. It was so much fun to express myself in different ways and I still am very good friends with a lot of the people I took classes with over the years.
I’ve been writing since I was about six or seven. Call it the little girl in me but I loved dragons, kings and queens and I loved reading about faraway lands. I took up writing due to telling my grandmother that I could write a story just like those authors could, so she just told me to ‘just write.’
And from there, I’ve always carried around a pen, pad and some music.
What can you tell us about your novella By Sunset?
What makes the characters in By Sunset stand out? Tell us a little about the main characters.
Without giving too much away, I’ll start out with Prince Caleb of Tacorian. Known as a bad boy, he has a tendency to act first and think much later.
Our other rider is Prince Julian of Kergan and I describe him as reformed bad boy of sorts. He’s about to be married and only wants to bring a bit of wealth and respectability back home with him if he is able to win the race.
In the middle of this is Olivia. She’s a lady in waiting for the Kergan royal family and has a secret or two of her own throughout the story.
The first novella in a fantasy series that will be published by LazyDay Publishing, what can you tell us about future books?
The next book that I’m writing is called By Moonlight and it literally takes place right where By Sunset ends. It’ll wrap up a lot of what happened in the first book and explore the hatred these two families have for one another in detail, in By Moonlight, the readers will meet Caleb’s brother’s Marrkos and Tristan as well as Julian’s friend, Jacob of Pagos.
While ‘By Sunset’ is about revenge, ‘By Moonlight’ discusses forgiveness and duty. People want to do what’s right in these books, not because they want to, it’s out of duty and the long-term consequences of their decisions.
The third book, ‘By Sunrise’ will tie this all up and give readers some resolutions.
These characters aren’t good or bad people. They’re kind of all in the gray area and that what’s making this series a lot of fun to write.
There are very few books about dragons on the market currently, what inspired you to go that way?
I’ve always been intriqued by them. We’ve all seen them portrayed as protectors or fearsome creatures. They are clearly protectors in these stories that are bound to their masters. As you’ll see, the Dragons are very close to them and are willing to do anything to protect them from the enemy.
What inspired you to write fantasy?
I’ve always loved to be taken away to a new land while princes, lord and soldiers protected their kingdom and winning the hearts of every woman in sight.
When did you know that you wanted to be a writer? Was your family and friends supportive?
I’ve always wanted to be a writer since I was a child. I wrote a lot for myself until as a teen, people mainly my english teacher thought that I had a chance of doing this some day. And honestly, I thought about it. But like teens do, I stopped, went to college, and real life got in the way. But I’d write stuff here and there. It wasn’t until 2 years ago, in the middle of going through illnesses with myself and now my late father to give it a try. Family and my friends were so supportive. I think my mom yelled louder than I did when I told her that I got a contract.
Who inspired you the most to follow your dreams of being a writer?
My late grandmother, John Ella. She would always tell me to ‘Be all that you can be.’ She always believed in me and encouraged me that there were no limits to where you want to go in life. She’d be tickled pink right now.
What is the writing process like for you? Do you have a particular writing process or any writing rituals?
I write longhand and then type everything into my laptop with my ipod or stereo on.. I tend to write either in the mornings before work or after work in my bedroom or lately in my family room until I go to bed.
In your free time what can you be found doing?
Reading, watching movies, catching up on TV shows. I don’t watch a lot of tv when I write. (right now I’m playing catch up).
What are you currently working on? Anything you can share regarding your current Work in Progress?
I’m working on several things. 1st is By Moonlight, the sequel to By Sunset.
I’m wrapping up two romance novels that follow two-mail order grooms from Belarus, Russia to a fictional town in Upstate, New York and the women they meet. And an werewolf urban fantasy series that I began to write over the summer that’s called “The District”
