He’s gorgeous.

He’s reckless.

And he’s every woman’s dirty fantasy in the state of California.., except one… Quinn Ashby.

Recent graduate of Penn and top of her class, Quinn is whip smart, ambitious and interning as the new marketing coordinator for the Bexley Bruisers American Hockey League team. The last thing she needs is to waste her time on guys…especially one as lethal to her focus as Cash Brooks.

But once the bad boy hockey star tempts her into his world, threatening her professional future, she’s forced to decide whether to let him into her heart…or to leave him behind forever.

Hockey!

I’m from Northern Ontario, Canada (Thunder Bay) which is known as being a hockey powerhouse. Where I’m from, people eat, sleep, and breathe hockey. Before I wrote Cash and Quinn’s story I was working on another romance novel (not involving a hockey player). Half way through, I became dissatisfied with my story and felt it lacked a certain something…so I vented to my husband as all writing wives I am sure do.

He was a hockey player, he loves hockey, and told me about Theo Fleurry, an NHL player who wrote a book called Playing with Fire. My husband suggested that if I wanted to add more depth to my story, I should read Fleurry’s book for inspiration and have a hockey player as my lead male.

I figured I knew the hockey world well enough (years of watching my husband, and now my sons) and if I ever needed any guidance, my husband was happy to fill me in on the ins and outs of professional hockey. Once I started researching Fleurry, I learnt about his struggle with addiction and his sordid past. The more I started to research troubled professional hockey players, the more information I found, and I immediately became inspired to write Cash and Quinn’s story.

With my lap top in hand, Perfect Sense just spilled out of me. My first novel, BETWEEN FRIENDS was a light and fluffy read (which is my usual go to as a writer), so this time I really had to dig deep to build depth within my characters and their story, while still staying true to my light fluffy “safe place” as a writer.

Plus, no lady can deny that hockey players aren’t super sexy! They just have an edge to that other professional athletes don’t. Maybe it’s the nose scars, missing teeth, or big burly shoulders that draw you in, but in my mind, as a small town Canadian girl, there isn’t a better kind of man than one who kicks ass on the ice!

Amanda Cowen can be found eating cupcakes, singing off-key, or watching a good RomCom when she isn’t trapped on her computer writing stories and delighting her imagination. She has been writing since the ripe age of twelve about ponies and princesses in brightly colored duo-tangs with metallic pens. Thankfully, she now has a Mac with a keyboard where she can write about love, sex and relationships. She is an “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fanatic, a hater of roller-coasters and a country music junkie. She lives in Thunder Bay, ON where the summers are short and the winters are long.
