Deputy Samuel Cruz escaped his troubled youth and turned his life around—no more drinking, no more gambling. He’s dedicated his life to upholding the law in Resurrection, Kansas: the town that gave him a chance to start fresh.

The last thing he wants is to remember who he used to be.

Mabel Hawthorne is a firm believer in second chances—that’s why she decided to become a mail-order bride. Marrying Samuel saves her from slaving away in a garment factory back East, now that her own parents are gone. She’s proud to be marrying a man who’s so dedicated to upholding the law and keeping others safe.

But if there’s anything that sticks in her craw, it’s injustice—and out on the western frontier, the concept of justice is a little more flexible than Mabel’s used to.

When Samuel’s profligate past catches up with him, Mabel wants nothing more than to help him put things to rights.

But this time, the law’s not on their side. As they fight to save a precocious boy from his abusive uncle, can Mabel keep Samuel on the straight-and-narrow?

Samuel’s Secret is a clean, inspirational mail order bride romance. While this book is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone book.

In Faith Parson’s heartwarming clean romance stories, courageous men and their mail-order brides join together to make a new life on the Western frontier.

Samuel’s Secret by Faith Parsons is the first book in the Seven Brides for Seven Lawmen series. It was delightful historical romance. I really enjoyed reading Samuel and Mabel’s story. The characters were warm and believable. Samuel’s Secret is set in Resurrection Kansas. It’s a charming mail order bride story. I look forward to reading the rest of the series and other books by this author.

Samuel is a good guy but he wasn’t always. His past haunts him but he does all he can to be a good Deputy in his town. He upholds the law and helps keep things running smoothly. His life changes when his mail order bride shows up in town followed by a recently orphaned boy bent on revenge. Mabel has always lived life according to her convictions. When she decides to be a mail order bride she refuses to compromise her values and is determined to be a good wife. When she arrives in Resurrection she falls in love with the town, her husband to be, and a runaway boy. Life for the two of them will change drastically as they learn to navigate their relationship and deal with the runaway boy and his drunken uncle. Will the two of them find happily ever after? Or will one or both of them end up compromising their values?

I really enjoyed Samuel’s Secret. It was a quick and easy read. I really loved Mabel’s character. She was a strong woman of faith and was not afraid to stand up for them. I really liked her convictions and how she treated everyone. She was a woman of virtue and faith. I liked Samuel as well. He was a good character. I liked that he didn’t have a perfect past but he was doing all he could to make sure he didn’t live the way he had in the past. The two of them were a great match and they complimented each other well. I would highly recommend Samuel’s Secret to anyone who enjoy Christian historical romances.
