Pagan Holiday Series/Inherited Damnation Series
Cursed by her incubus father centuries ago, the last thing Rhiannon McLaine wants is to fall in love.
The night she delivers flowers to detective Mick Farrell, however, everything changes. Deep-seated attraction flares into untamed passion. In the morning, Rhiannon awakens to find she’s lost her heart. Now, unless she can convince Mick of her secret past, she’s destined to take his life.
When Rhiannon asks Mick to go camping with her, instinct warns him to refuse. Though he hungers for her love and the goodness she represents, he’ll do anything to keep her from discovering the darkness within his soul. Yet a weekend in the woods is the perfect place to indulge in temporary desire…until he finds himself bound against his will.
Surrounded by ancient Celtic rites and magic, can Mick see beyond Rhiannon’s duplicity and recognize her love? Or will the revelation of her true demonic nature doom Rhiannon to a mortal life alone?
Rhiannon McLaine is immortal. She was hidden by her mother as a child to escape from her evil father who already killed half of her siblings. Using his dark magic, he gave each child immortality but also his demon heritage. They were incubuses and would kill the person that they fell in love with. But her mother gave her life to protect her remaining children and left each of them an out-clause in secret journal entries. Rhiannon must make the choice of loving Mick Farrell, or possibly killing him.
Mick Farrell is a police detective who has felt that his soul has been split in two. He is more likely these days to want to kill the bad guys rather than bring them in for questioning. When his step-father passes away, his life crumbles and he reaches out to the one woman he has secretly loved for years.
Tormented by Darkness is the second book in the Inherited Damnation series. It isn’t necessary for you to read the previous book to enjoy this one. Each story focuses on one of the remaining siblings and their quest for their mother’s journal and a way to become mortal again. Tormented by Darkness is more of a psychological story where the characters must face their emotional demons in addition to Rhiannon’s father. Both Mick and Rhiannon share their feelings of loss and have to learn to trust each other, especially since Mick has no idea that the supernatural world exists.
Tormented by Darkness is a wondrous read where facing the truth about one’s self is an important lesson for both characters and the reader. I recommend that you read this book if you are looking for a unique twist on the typical demon tales. You will certainly question what you are willing to do for love.
