Christmas has held no joy for Serena since her husband died. This Christmas Eve, all she wants to do is go home, shut the door, and curl up under a blanket with her cat until the holidays are over. When her sexy and mysterious neighbor, Ivan, invites her over for a cup of cocoa, the holiday starts to get interesting. Later that night, she gets the shock of a lifetime when she finds the most unusual bear she has ever seen delivering an unexpected midnight gift destined to thaw her frozen heart-and body. Upon a Midnight Bear by Aurora Russell is a wonderful paranormal Christmas romance. I enjoyed reading Ivan and Serena’s story. It is a story of loss, love, and Christmas. I have always enjoyed Christmas stories but adding the paranormal into it makes it even better. I loved the characters and felt they were real and relatable. I would definitely pick up another book by this author in the future.

Serena hates the holidays but she didn’t always hate them. Once she lost her husband they just weren’t the same for her. She wished they would just pass by without a fuss. She doesn’t plan on doing anything this year but stay home. Her life is about to change and maybe the holidays will redeem themselves. Ivan is a bear shifter and he lives next door to Serena. Her scent drives him crazy and his bear go wild. He notices that she isn’t in a festive mood and sets about to change that if he can. He starts out slow so that he doesn’t scare her off. Will he be able to give her a reason to celebrate? Or will one or both of them end up disappointed?

I thought Upon a Midnight Bear was a sweet second chance love story. I felt for Serena and could totally understand why she didn’t enjoy the holidays. I think I might feel the same in her shoes. She was a believable character and it was easy to relate to her even if you have never experienced the same loss. I liked Ivan he was a perfect love interest for her. The two of them together made sense. I love that Ivan wanted to redeem Christmas for her and that he didn’t start with something huge. I think his approach was exactly what Serena needed. I would recommend Upon a Midnight Bear to anyone who enjoys paranormal Christmas romances.
